| HISTORY |
Like many of the other orphans Lucas grew up with, he never knew his real parents. He didn't live in some huge fancy house with a backyard and a white picket fence. Nor did he get to enjoy most of the luxuries some kids were blessed with. No cool new toys to play with on his birthday, no stories being read to him before getting tucked into bed and no pet dog to go on adventures with. Only a house full of other orphans, some the same age as him and others much older, that were his so called ‘family’. Having to grow up with as big a group as he did, Lucas was forced to learn how to share. How to get along with kids he didn’t want to get along with. How to play nice. And though he didn’t mind too much, it would have been nice if for once, he got to enjoy something that wasn’t handed down to him. Lucas didn’t mind the other kids, but most of them were too dumb, or too whiney, or too weird, and no matter how much he tried to quote-un-quote ‘give them a chance’, he just didn’t find anyone he clicked with. Then Gabreel came along and silent prayers had been answered. Gabreel was practically everything Lucas could ever hope for in a friend and the two were now nearly inseparable. If you saw one moseying around somewhere, you’d be damn sure the other was close. Most likely hiding behind a tree to pull another one of their well thought out pranks on you. They were a dynamic duo. A force to be reckoned with and while they were infamous for being the two biggest trouble makers in the home, they were also the favorites. Life was at a momentary high for the two boys. That is until that special day finally came for Lucas. Despite what statistics say, Lucas grew up to be a fairly well balanced kid and soon enough, he was being picked for adoption. He’d finally have a family and a home of his own and though he’d miss Gabreel and a few of his other friends from the foster home, he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t the least bit excited. The first was month was a little overwhelming for the boy and it took him awhile to adjust to his new life, but after about two weeks of awkwardness and many ‘getting to know you’ attempts, Lucas finally started to feel comfortable with his new family. Soon he was being sent off to school and to his surprise, he got along with his peers easily. Though a little blue eyed brunette that lived next door probably helped him with that. Not that he’d ever admit that to Jayne’s face. All technical details aside, Lucas was happy. And his happiness grew even more when Gabreel started coming around for visits. Regular visits at that. And as the years passed, that happiness grew even more. Gabe had been adopted and his new parents allowed him to attend the same school as Lucas and Jayne. Life was perfect for Lucas who had not only one, but two best friends at his side. High school was practically a piece of cake. The trio shared many of the same classes. Parties were attended. Hearts were broken. Trouble was gotten into, but that was a given. This was, of course, Gabreel and Lucas here. These would become probably some of Lucas’ most fondest memories. Only because of the fact that his happy little world would be turned inside out when his other third had to move away to DC. The two kept in touch, on a small casual level, but it was difficult hearing how different Gabe began to sound with each new call. He was, in fact, not only his best friend, but also someone he had grown up with. Lucas knew deep down that something was different. And soon, Gabe was packing his bags once more and moving off to Paris. Losing his best friend was hard and as difficult as it was, Lucas learned how to cope. He eventually learned how to move on. He had dabbled in a few illegal substances when he was still close with Gabe and Jayne, but instead of falling on those vices and using them as a crutch, he did quite the opposite. Lucas once again went against the statistics and hit the books. Hard. He was able to graduate with honors and took full advantage of one of the many scholarships offered to him. Hoping to find his friend somewhere in the DC area, Lucas decided to attend the University there, but to no avail. He spent many years switching between majors until he finally found his one true love. Sure he's stuck having to pay off a few student loans (he learned the hard way that scholarships don't really last too long when you can't decide what you want to do with it), but he's happy to say he's found his little niche in the world. It may not be a super glamorous life, but he's happy where he's at and though he hasn't told anyone about it yet, Lucas hopes to one day start shirt design company. Threadless.com won't even know what hit them. And who knows? Maybe one day, the stars will align and he'll eventually cross paths with his two best childhood friends again... |
